site upgraded minimally to wordpress 2.1.3 from 2.1.2

Finally got some time tonight to upgrade the wordpress server software powering this site to the latest release 2.1.3.  This is to take advantage of the security enhancements, except  those for xmlrpc.php. The latter had been removed from this site, as recommended by my articles (part I & part II) on how to secure a LAMP server such as a wordpress server. Read the rest of this entry »

Wordpress.org acknowledged the 2.1.1 release may have been tempered with for some of the downloads. It is urgent for sites running 2.1.1 to upgrade to the latest 2.1.2 release. As always, no much specifics was given. Read the rest of this entry »

site upgraded minimally to wordpress 2.1.1 from 2.1

As I noted earlier in the live journal for this blog, I noticed a new version of wordpress.org server software was released two days ago. It took me by surprise (again) since I didn’t receive any email notice. I signed up for release notice last time when I stumbled upon the then latest 2.0.7 bug-fix release.  This time, I couldn’t locate  the release note to determine what bugs get fixed and what security fix is in. maintenance annoucement : UPS upgraded for this wordpress server

I bought a new APC UPS today from Office Depot at $50 after $50 MIR. It replaced the malfunctioning Energizer UPS this afternoon between 5:40 and 6:10pm EDT. All electrical power needed to serve this wordpress blog server are now on this new UPS, including the physical PIII 400MZ generic server running Fedora Core 6 Linux, a HP desktop running windows XP as the blog server management workstation, Motorola cable modem, and a Netgear router. new : lame rpm added for FC6 (Fedora Core Linux 6)

lame-3.97-1.i386.rpm, a new rpm, has been built and added to my little stash of useful RPMs for FC6 (Fedora Core Linux 6).  As said by its RPM summary tag line, “LAME Ain’t an MP3 Encoder… but it’s the best.” I  used it recently to convert WAV files to MP3. The WAV files resulted from extracting audio tracks off my son’s music CD. All from command-line. Here are the steps.
